There are a number of other elements in determining the basement construction cost. In areas near sea level, foundation drainage is essential. Without foundation drainage, the basement will flood. A wall coating is also needed to seal up small openings in the concrete surface. In areas where there is a great deal of moisture, rubber sheeting or clay sealing may be needed for additional exterior support.

Another part of figuring out the basement construction cost is the price of insulation. Polystyrene insulation can be applied to the exterior, with at least two inches of insulation from two feet below the top and an inch near the bottom of the wall.
