Construction Materials Cost
The construction materials cost for a project depends largely on the types of materials used. If basic construction materials are used, the cost can be kept to a minimum; if more exotic materials are requested, the construction materials cost can become quite high.
In large scale building projects, concrete and steel will be used for the majority of the exterior work and the building of the frame. In more modern designs however, the construction materials cost can be increased as owners look for more energy efficient materials and use more windows with less steel or concrete framing. The interior can also drive up the construction materials cost if the owner decides to use high-priced items like marble or stone as opposed to brick on top of the concrete surface. Wood paneling can also drive up the price tag.
The construction materials cost on new homes can very even more significantly, as the home builder has a variety of options to choose from. If the home owner decides to have a house build with an entirely brick exterior, they will pay substantially more than if 20 to 30 percent of the house was built with vinyl siding. Unique architectural designs will also drive up the construction materials cost, as exotic materials or complex workmanship may be needed to ensure that it is completed properly. Using a steel frame for the house and the roof may also cost more if is substituted for wood.
The exterior of a home, like in an office building, can also have a higher construction materials cost. If the home owner decides to use solid wood flooring or marble instead of carpeting, the construction materials cost will be far higher. Higher quality ceiling fans can cost more than the standard versions, as can air conditioning units. What kind of tile is used in the bathroom and whether the countertops in the kitchen are marble or granite as opposed to basic tops can mean an greatly increased construction materials cost.
