Construction Project Leads
In order for a general contractor to be competitive, they must be able to discover, develop and take advantage of new project leads. Without new project leads, a contractor remains a step behind the competition.
Today, there are more ways to discover construction project leads than ever. One of the classic methods of finding new project leads reading industry-related magazines, most of which have new project announcements in the back sections. Other construction project leads can be found in local newspapers, as clients like school districts and city and state government agencies are required by law to advertise their new construction projects in order to increase the number of interested bidders. The simplest method, of course, is to hear about new construction leads from an architect or client the contractor has worked with successfully in the past and is interested in continuing the relationship.
There are also newer methods to find new construction leads as well. The introduction of the Internet has brought previously unheard-of methods to the table, including the use of sites entirely devoted to the posting and description of new construction projects across the country. These new construction projects can even be separated by size, scope, presumed cost and production method. If a contractor is only interested in pursuing a construction manager at-risk job costing less than $50 million or a school construction project, they will be able to search within those parameters.
Other Internet-based methods that can produce new construction leads are new, Web-based industry sites that serve a purpose similar to the older magazines. They not only discuss topics of interest to the industry, but have new construction leads as well. Cities and school districts, as well as state and federal agencies, also use their own Web site as a way to officially post their new construction projects. Checking these sites can help a contractor find new construction leads the competition might otherwise overlook. New construction leads can be found in many different places and many different ways, so the opportunity for a contractor to be competitive depends only on their ability to be willing to look around, find a project within their capabilities and bid on it.
