Construction Site Services

Construction site services can cover a wide variety of things, from those directly related to the construction process to those less important. Without some construction site services, the building process will grind to a halt or not get started at all.

Some construction site services are needed during the pre-construction process. Surveyors and photographers are needed to provide data necessary to lay out a project, well before the first shovel of dirt is moved. Other construction site services needed early on have to do with earth moving, digging and leveling, as the area is prepared for construction to begin. Large equipment must be brought in to remove any physical features that might disrupt construction, then a hole large enough for the foundation of the building must be dug. Once the hole is dug, the ground at the base of the hole must be flattened and leveled for the slab to be poured.

Other construction site services do not directly involve construction itself. For most construction projects, there are on-site health and safety specialists monitoring construction activity for potential hazards and conducting remedial training. If any hazards are found, the safety specialist is responsible for stopping work in that area until the problem is resolved. On some projects, there are medical teams on site to help take care of any workplace injuries.

Other construction site services have to do with environmental quality assurance, budget and schedule monitoring and construction debris removal. These services can take place throughout the life of the project. Construction site cleanup teams are also needed, especially as the project nears its finishing stages, as the area and completed project must be in an appropriate condition to be handed over to the owner. Other site services include the providing of certain facilities, from portable toilets to food and drink vendors. For some projects--especially large scale, multi-million dollar projects--there is a need for on-site security. Theft of materials and expensive equipment is commonplace on sites that are not watched around the clock, and the hiring of a security firm would be substantially cheaper than replacing equipment in the long run.
