House Construction Roof
In the process of house construction, roof installation is a critical part in determining the success or failure of the project. In house construction, roof building can be one of the tougher parts, requiring skilled labor and careful work to get it done right.
There are a number of items needed in order to successfully build a house construction roof. These include pre-fabricated roof trusses; scaffolding; plywood for the exterior; metal flashing; tar paper; composite asphalt shingles; industrial staples; roofing nails; metal fasteners and plywood for rafter ties.
The skeleton or superstructure of the roof must be assembled first. There are trusses built onto the top of the walls that can help hold the developing structure in place as it is built, then the whole roof once completed. The skeleton of the roof is usually built with wood, with the pieces connected with trusses and metal fasteners. In most cases, the structure of the roof is built by construction workers working on scaffolding, but in some cases the roof's superstructure is built on the grown and set into place by a crane.
The next step in the house construction roof installation process is the sheathing of the roof. This step is where plywood is installed in the open spaces between the pieces of the frame of the roof. Once the pieces of plywood are positioned properly, they should be nailed into place using a nail gun. Roofing felt is then installed as a wetness barrier between the plywood and the shingles that will make up the exterior of the roof. Once the felt is properly in place, it should be fastened into position using a staple gun and industrial strength staples.
The final and best-known step of the house construction roof installation process is the installing of the shingles. The singles can be fastened into place by removing the glue strip on the bottom, then are stuck to the felt. In order to prevent leakage, the shingles should overlap by at least one-half of an inch to avoid any openings. In areas that can be affected by hurricanes, wind-sealed shingles can be used. These shingles have additional roofing cement added, which bonds to the shingle below when the roof is heated by the sun. This extra strength can help keep them in place during periods of high winds.
