Calcasieu Refining

On the Calcasieu Ship Channel, just near Lake Charles in Louisiana, and at the heart and soul of the Gulf Coast refining and petrochemical area lies Calcasieu Refining. This strategic location, combined with up-to-date refining facilities, good financial standing, technical know-how and experienced management leadership is what has given Calcasieu refining that definitive advantage to stay on top of the modern day dynamic business environment. The main refinery products in Calcasieu Refining include diesel, kerosene, Jet-A fuel, and atmospheric residuals.

Calcasieu refining at the moment boasts of an operating capacity of over 32,000 barrels in a day, but the company is always looking for new and better ways to develop extra capacity while reducing the operating costs. The success of Calcasieu refining has been guided by the fundamentals of the refining and processing of hydrocarbon.

Calcasieu refining is built on 33 acres on the Calcasieu ship channel, with the refinery being less than a mile from the intra-coastal waterway. It is due to this location that makes it ideal for refining. The company has a deep water barge access to its main markets, which it uses to acquire crude oil feed stocks as well as transport the end refined products to the global consumers. In addition to this great advantage, there are two main product pipeline systems (Colonial and Explorer) terminaling their facilities approximately 3 miles of Calcasieu.

Currently, Calcasieu Refining operates and manages two barge docks where these facilities can accommodate two different sets of barge vessels concurrently for loading all the refined products as well as unloading its acquired crude oil for refining. There is also track rack facilities within the company used to truck load products out of, and also to truck load the crude oil in the refinery for refining process to commence. Currently, the crude storage capacity is around 300,000 barrels while the total crude and product storage capacity is around 750,000 barrels.

The success of Calcasieu refining operations is owed to its workforce which has many years of refining experience, and where most have been recruited from the Lake Charles region. The workforce is well updated, trained, and extremely motivated to ensure personal development is achieved while Calcasieu Refining meets its growth and expansion challenges and satisfies the hydrocarbon needs of its client base. The oldest serving employees have been in the company for over 15 years, hence there is everything that many years of experience brings along in Calcasieu refining.
