Precious Metals Refining
The most valuable of precious metals are gold and silver while platinum and palladium follow silver. Gold and silver are taken for industrial use as well as artistic crafts, jewelry and coins. Other than these metals, precious metals include ruthenium, rhodium, osmium and iridium. These metals are widely used for chemical catalysts since last two decades. The separations of precious metals from other non-corrosives such as used electronic assemblies, alloys, and ores is called metal refining. Many international companies are in the metal refining trade.
Precious metal refining is done by a heating process called pyrolysis or hydrolysis. The Phyrolysis method solidifies noble-metalliferous metals melting them to become cider and then pouring or oxidizing thereby separating precious metals. The procedure of hydrolysis includes dissolving noble-metalliferous products in aqua regia i.e hydrochloric acid and nitric acid. Sometimes hydrochloric acid and chlorine gas is also used. During the process, some metals are reduced when in contact with salt, gas, organic or nitrohydrate.
Subsequently the metals are re-crystallized through which the precious metals are removed separately from the metal calcinations. Hydrolyzing and thermo preparation of noble-metalliferous are done subsequently. By using catalysts that contain precious metals, can give better results.
Manufacturing procedures generate scraps that contain of significant quantity of precious metals. By refining these scraps you can recover precious metals and get a profit. To do that you have to detect, collect, protect and finally select the precious metals from the scrap. There are so many places within a manufacturing procedure that may hide precious metals. For example buffing, sanding or grinding of precious metals can cause scrap to be in the form of dust. This dust should be collected. The precious scraps may come in liquid form within sink traps as well. Holding fixtures, hooks, clips anodes etc., can also trap precious metals.
These scraps should be segregated according to their types. It will ease the procedure when refining and minimize the cost gaining more profit. Collect more valuable scraps to one container while the lower value to the next. Get solids to the box, taking the liquids to another one. Put magnetic scraps to separate container while non-magnetic scraps to another.
By refining gold, silver and other precious metal scraps, you can be assureds of a good profit. If you are in a metal-related manufacturing business, make sure such wastage of the company has a value. Collecting them separately according to their metal type and value, you can refine them better regaining considerable profit for your business.
