Alternative Energy Solar
The world is facing the burning problem of energy crisis. Everyone knows that the fossil fuels that are used to power offices, vehicles, and, homes are limited ones. Scientists have been striving for finding out alternative sources of energy solutions. Wind and solar energy are the available technologies, but people seem reluctant to accept them due to economic reasons. However, the increasing pollutants caused by the used fossil fuels and the growing global warming have compelled the man to think and implement the alternative sources at the earliest. Thence, solar renewable energy system has been becoming popular day by day and governments are also offering financial incentives to entice people to try this novel technology by reducing the costs rapidly.
In olden times animals and trees were the only sources to fulfill the need for energy. People used to harvest the crops or travel by animals and employ the dead wood for fuel purpose. Later 1760 to 1830 was the period of Industrial Revolution when the man was in need of constant supply of energy to run factories and power the automobile. Hence, natural gas and coal became the prime energy sources of the Industrial Age. Scientists were haunted by the only thought of inventing some renewable source of energy. The ancient Romans and Greeks believed that exact positioning of the solar energy while constructing the houses could gather warmth to satisfy their need for fuel during winters. However, they were unable to collect and store the sun-rays for the general usage. Nevertheless, in 1861 Auguste Mouchout proved to be the first inventor of the solar powered steam engine.
With the advances in energy technology wind, sun, and geothermal power are being harnessed for renewable sources of energy. The sun is the natural alternative energy source which is free for all to use. Hence, conversion of solar thermal energy into electric power appears to be the perfect solution. Using sun’s energy requires solar cells. These solar cells, which are also known as photoelectric or photovoltaic cells, convert light-weight into electricity. In solar technology, the expensive solar cells are more efficient to collect and convert the solar energy into the useful form. However, scientists are engaged in reducing the size and cost of the solar panels by increasing their capacity to collect the solar energy to the maximum percentage. The only demerit of this useful alternative energy source is that it cannot function during nights, cloudy days, and rainy seasons.
