China Wind Energy
Usage of wind energy is the “in” thing now in China. The Chinese have realized the importance of using alternative energy and are contributing in order to save our precious environment from degrading. By the end of 2009, China has realized that the country’s economy has achieved tremendous growth by the usage of wind energy. After the United States of America and Germany, China stands third in the largest production of wind power. China has achieved this position mainly because of its long coastline and large land mass. Around fifteen Chinese companies were producing wind turbines and its respective component parts by the end of the year 2008. Such was their seriousness of usage of alternative energy. Awareness about wind energy was high and people wanted to help the environment and they as well as the usage of alternative energy would greatly reduce their electrical bills gradually bringing it down to zero. Even the global wind council has stated that the production of wind energy in China in terms of the scale and rhythm has no parallel in the world.
The first offshore Chinese wind farm was constructed in early 2009. It is located near Shangri and was completed in late 2009. It is said to have 34 wind turbines of capacity 34 MW each. Grunting is the nearest wind farm to the Chinese capital and can be reached in a 90-minute drive from the centre of the city. It is located near the great wall’s Badaling section. It currently has 47 wind turbines and by the end of this year, it is said to have 100 wind turbines.
Currently the biggest wind turbine producers in China are the Goldwin. They belong to the Xingjiang province. It was started in 1998 and has adapted new technologies and this has resulted in its market expansion everywhere. Currently there are around 80 wind farms in China of which 32 wind farms are operated by the Guodian wind group. Each of their farms has 952 windmills, each of capacity 780 MW. This is about 30% of the total wind generation in China. The first domestic wind farm in Shangai was built in Lingang, New town in 2008. The Huadong Eastern China Power Grid was then connected to the power generated from this farm. There are several other wind farms in Shangai and these include the Qinjian Bay Wind Farm, the Nanhui Wind Farm and the Chongming Dongtan (Eastern Beaches) Wind Farm.
