Clean Energy Sources
Growing concerns on global warming and the ill effects of carbon emissions have taken the world by storm. While technology has changed the face of this planet, yet the tradeoff has been high. The climatic changes and harmful effects of depletion of the ozone layer are just a few. The only way to bail ourselves out of this situation is by resorting to using clean energy sources.
Popularly known as green power, clean energy sources are many and they help decrease the levels of greenhouse gas emissions thereby proving favorable to the ecosystem. Supported by the Environmental Protection Agency, clean energy sources are being promoted as the safer alternate source of energy.
To name a few sources that belong to the family of green power, geothermal energy, solar power, hydropower and wind energy are just a few.
Not commonly heard off, geothermal energy is produced by harvesting heat from below the surface of the earth in the form of steam. This steam is used to spin turbines creating motion that is transmitted to a generator and the power thus produced can be used to operator any modern electric appliance.
Solar power is the more known form of renewable energy. Often one has seen photovoltaics, which are nothing but solar cells on the roof of houses. These cells absorb the solar energy from the sun and transform the light energy from the sun to electricity. A number of panels when placed strategically exposed to the sun can produce enough electricity to light a home.
Low impact hydropower is another form of clean energy. This form of renewable energy uses turbines to create hydropower in water bodies like streams and rivers. The force of the flowing water in these water bodies helps spin the turbines thereby generating hydroelectric power.
Wind energy works on a similar aspect of turbine spinning like hydropower by capturing the movement of the air to create energy. The energy thus garnered is transmitted to an electricity generator and can be used in any modern application. Wind energy is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sectors and its usage has been expanding everywhere.
Climatic and ecological issues are on the rise and as citizens of mother earth, it is our foremost duty to preserve this planet and what had better way than making use of these alternate sources of clean energy. Go green with energy sources that are clean!
