Energy Management Resources

Energy is generated both from renewable and non-renewable sources. Coal and petroleum are the major and commercial source of energy. It is necessary to develop devices that can boost the renewable sources of energy. Solar energy can be used for operating solar cookers; biomass can be used for biogas plants and so on.

There are many sources of energy like coal, petroleum, natural gas etc. Sun is the major and natural source of energy. Energy sources are classified into two categories on the basis of whether they can be regenerated or not they are:

Renewable sources of energy - e.g. solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectricity etc.

Non-renewable sources of energy – e.g. coal, petroleum and natural gas

Growing concern over the world’s ever-increasing needs and the prospect of rapid depletion of reserves of oil, natural gas and uranium fuel have prompted efforts to develop viable alternative energy sources. The volatility and uncertainty of the petroleum fuel supply were dramatically brought to the fore during the energy crisis of the 1970’s. It has also been recognized that the heavy reliance on fossil fuels has had an adverse impact on the environment.

The over consumption of energy resources is one of the major causes of worry as human population is growing explosively. There are tow major causes that has led to the high consumption of resources. One is because of the rising population and the second cause is the irrational and wasteful ways in which the system forces consumers to meet their needs.

The development of science and technology has made us completely dependent on electricity and fuel.

Electricity and fuels are two sources that are consumed at a very high rate, much higher than the rate of production. Therefore we need to make energy management a way of life.

This can be done by,

1] Organizing car pools. It saves money, fuel and prevents pollution.

2] Letting the car engine idle means more carbon dioxide in the air. Turn it off when you have to wait for periods more than two minutes. Save fuel.

3] A well tuned engine can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%. It will produce fewer gases and pollute less.

4] One busload of passengers take 40 vehicles off the road during rush hour saves 70,000 liters of fuel and avoids 9 tones of air pollutants a year.

A large amount of waste is generated by us in our daily practices. For example we use fresh water to cook food, wash our clothes, cars and for bathing. Instead we can use stored water and save running water. The water utilized in washing up the vegetables can be used up in watering plants.
