Improve Energy Efficiency

There are several benefits by being energy efficient at home. We use energy for various activities from cooking to heating water. In the summer season, we need energy to make ourselves feel cool and during winter, we use the same energy to reduce the heat. When we switch on any appliance, we use energy, similarly the energy we consume everyday increases our electricity bill. A large amount of our budget is wasted on this and we are under the impression that nothing can be done about this. However, it is not so. By increasing the efficiency of energy effectively, we can actually reduce our sky-high electric bills.

There are many ways to improve energy efficiency, simple ways that we do not pay attention to or rather take for granted. To begin with, we do not give importance to saving energy, when we watch Television or work on the computer most of us usually just leave it on after use. This should not happen anymore. We should make sure we turn off the power and also unplug the appliance. This will help us save a lot of money.

Usually most of us do not take pains to identify the causes of energy wastage. If discovered and stopped again this would help us save a lot of money. This could be because of the lack of insulation or even air leakage. Heating can be improved by increasing the insulation at home. Make sure there is no roof damage or pests in your house. These might also result in inadequate insulation. Once all this is looked after, you will notice a decline in your electric bill. Energy efficient bulbs can be used too. These will reduce the energy consumption more effectively when compared to the ordinary bulbs we use in our homes.

The air leakage from our houses happens mainly through doors and windows. This air leakage has to be sealed and this process is called weatherization. Due to excessive usage, the seals on the door wear out. The attic stairway should also be sealed. Even if the ventilation is not good the energy efficiency is reduced as the cooling and heating systems are not working properly and hence money has be spent in order to force it to work. This results in greater consumption of energy.  Energy can be saved by the reduction of carbon footprints. By unplugging the electrical appliances at night or by removing the chargers of mobile phones after charging, by recycling paper, plastics and glass we can save a lot of energy and hence improve the energy efficiency.
