Light And Sound Energy

Light and sound are variations of energy that can be converted from one form to the other. Sound energy is produced when sound waves travel through any specific medium. The energy released through sound waves is not due to any chemical reaction rather it is due to its movement and the pressure that it exerts. Though energy can be obtained from sound harnessing it is not practical as the energy released is very small and therefore not enough to be used to generate electricity. Also the intensity of sound waves is very small and even this aspect cannot be used to harness sound energy. The direction of the sound waves are also scattered which hinders the harnessing process. Though a benefit of sound is that it can travel through all forms of matter the lack of energy it is able to give out is its only negative aspect. Though sound energy can be converted from one form to another through microphones and speakers the conversions to generate enough electricity to light a bulb is not feasible. Therefore sound energy cannot be used as a source of renewable energy.

Light energy on the other hand is a stronger source and it can be used to produce electricity. Usually termed solar energy, it is harnessed through the use of solar panels that contain solar cells that convert the heat generated by light into electricity. There are many solar lights that charge during the day and light up in the night. In many countries due to the reduction of sunlight in winter daylight saving time is a method to help maximize sunlight usage. Solar energy not only helps in producing light energy that is converted into electricity, it also is used in heating water as well as maintaining the heating systems in many offices. Solar energy is also important as it is used in many water treatment plants to purify water. There is also the solar cooker which is a device that uses sunlight to cook food. Solar energy is also used in the production of salt. Solar energy is also used to increase the rate of many chemical reactions. The use of solar energy to run vehicles has become an increasing important due to the rise in fuel prices around the world. China has been one of the largest producers of solar powered cars to help curb pollution and increase the use of clean energy.
