Nuclear Energy Efficiency
The population of the world is on a rise. The increasing population is also increasing the demands of energy to fuel daily lives. The standards of living in developing countries like India, china etc are being compared to European, Japanese and the American living values. The various sources of energy we are currently using are coal, hydroelectric, gas, wind, solar and nuclear. Nuclear energy efficiency is one of the most crucial factors each government is paying specific attention to.
In an energy demanding world, Nuclear energy is playing an important role in fulfilling the needs due to its various advantages. Nuclear energy is inexpensive and does not contribute to green house or acid rain effects. The energy generated from this technology is in the most concentrated form. The waste produced from generating this energy is clean, compact and can be handled effectively. The efforts are directed in conserving this source of energy so as to benefit future generations. As a fuel, being easy to transport is also another factor in understanding the nuclear energy efficiency.
The department of Nuclear energy present in various countries is promoting secure, competitive and environmental friendly technologies to serve the present and preserve for the future energy needs. The new century has various environmental challenges and this is leading to produce clean and safe nuclear energy. Generating electricity with low costs from nuclear plants, gas and coal are dependent on the location. The economically attractive source of electricity is coal in countries like USA, china and Australia as it is easily available in abundance.
In base power gas is very competitive; unfortunately gas prices are on the steady increase making it very expensive. Nuclear energy has therefore become competitive for the generation of electricity hand in hand with even fossil fuel. The capital costs are high in setting up the plant and waste disposal with the decommissioning costs are considered. The nuclear power economics are outstanding in contrast to the social, environmental and health costs of the fossil fuels. Overall the basic attraction towards just nuclear energy has been its low fuel. Uranium, the main component in producing this energy has to be processed, enriched and fabricated into fuel elements. This process contributes to half the cost of nuclear energy production. The easily transportable and cheap costs of uranium contribute to the overall nuclear energy efficiency.
