Renewable Energy Potential

The word 'Renewable' means replenishable. The renewable energy sources are the ones that nature replenishes on its own. Renewable energy is generated mainly from natural resources like wind, rain, sunlight, geothermal heat, tides, biomass etc. Statistics say that Renewable energy is the fastest growing source of energy production. In the year 2006, 18% of the total production of global energy was produced using renewable resources. Electricity generation also uses 18% of renewable resources with 15% out of it being produced from hydroelectricity. Wind power is the fastest growing energy generation, growing at a pace of 30% every year and is widely used in Europe, Asia and United States

Photovoltaic industry is widely used in Germany and Spain. Solar power is widely used in USA and Spain. Geothermal energy is widely used California, which has natural geysers making California suitable. Brazil is another fastest growing industry of renewable energy generation, which mainly uses Ethanol, which is a natural fuel that is obtained from sugarcane.

Renewable energy production is a large-scale production. Nevertheless, it can be used for small-scale purposes in small industries in rural areas even. The development of renewable energy production can help develop countries and backward areas. The increasing demand of natural gas, coal, petrol, the shortage of fuel, increasing prices of fuel and change in climatic conditions has led to the use of renewable energy and its commercialization

There are various techniques of renewable energy production as if photovoltaic’s, hydropower, biomass, and solar thermal power, hot dry rock geothermal power and lastly wind energy. Photovoltaic panels for photovoltaic production are erected in such a way that the panel surface is parallel to latitude and which has a calculated slope towards the sun. The best conditions for photovoltaic productions are found on high mountains.

Now we talk about hydropower. In hydropower, we have two types: 1) river-this is using the running water of the river. The energy is produced using the water that flows down the river 2) storage-here the water is stored. The energy produced is calculated using the water that runs into the reservoir.

Another important resource is biomass. This is the usage of waste and residues. It is required in the production of heat. Then comes hot dry rock technique. In a technique two wells are due to a depth of about 4000m.Water is pressed into the porous rock in one well. The water is heated here and it flows into the other well into a thermal power plant that produces electricity. Lastly, we have the most important resource of wind energy. This is generated using wind turbines created to produce energy of about 2.5 MW. Renewable energy resources are far from being exhausted and have much more potential.
