The fastest growing sector around the world today is probably the renewable energy sector. The awareness of global warming and the adverse effects that burning of fossil fuels has on the environment is probably the main reason for the sudden spurt in companies looking for green sources of energy. The advancement in the technology has also led to better development of this sector. Renewable energy has used over centuries but has never been accessed to its whole potential. An example of this is that the sun gives the earth enough solar energy to fulfill the energy needs of earth for over thirty years but this energy has not been harnessed due to the enormous cost factor. But the increasing research in this field makes it likely that the cost will decrease if there is enough increase in the demand or there is a drastic reduction in the manufacture of solar panels due to better technology. Solar energy is the primary choice but the wind energy sector seems to be doing very well and is probably a good sector to invest in as it gets quite profitable returns. But wind energy does not work well in urban settings not only due to the lack of space to set up wind farms but also due to the noise they generate that is often criticized by neighbors.

Many energy companies also look at combining renewable resources in their production of energy not only to protect the environment but also to cut costs. Some companies also buy energy from individuals who produce energy and hence reduce their carbon emissions. Though the first companies to begin greener sources of energy well mostly small companies the interest in the environment as well as the reduction of expenditure on power consumption has drawn in many multinational corporations into the field. The farmers in many rural areas have realized the benefits of harnessing renewable energy resources as they do not have to depend on the erratic government supply of power and are able to sustain themselves without major difficulties. Though developed countries do not suffer much from erratic power supply, it is a reality in many developing countries. Here the renewable energy sector is noted to be among the fastest growing sector to help decrease the enormous demand of power by supplying alternatives. The growth of this sector is dependent on both technology as well as awareness.
