Renewable Energy Water
There is power in nature; and for many years, humans have used water to generate power aside from using the sun and the wind. This kind of energy is called hydro energy. Water is a strong force and as it flows in streams, it can be used to turn turbines which produce power and which is used to power millions of homes and industries in the world. Renewable energy water is an important asset to a country that seeks to be independent in its production of power.
Water is one of the most renewable forms of energy, and the fact that is does not harm the environment is an icing to the cake. In an effort to protect the environment, hydro energy has gained more importance in the recent past than it was before. It only takes a small volume of water to produce massive amounts of energy to power thousands of homes.
The process of harnessing the massive power that water generates entails tapping the water so that the turbines can be moved by a steady volume of water. We all know that nature controls the amount of water in the rivers; and that for the turbines to run, there needs to be a reliable volume of it in the rivers. This necessitates the building of dams on the course of the river. Harnessing hydroelectric power also involves a lot of safety concerns as the water should never come into contact with the electricity.
The only disadvantage of using hydroelectric power is that the users of the water in the rivers may have to make major adjustments once the dams have been created. It takes only one dam to change a river from a force of nature to a trickle and those that live downstream may have major challenges to contend with. Farming and fishing communities have had to change their ways of life thanks to the hydro electric power plants upstream. It is also an expensive process to turn water into power, and not many economies have managed to source this energy for its people.
The United States has several dams in major rivers and massive amounts of power are generated daily from them. Most dams are located in the west of the United States. Aside from dams, the oceans are a good source of hydro power as well. The source of power comes from the waves in the oceans which can be used to turn turbines as well.
