Types Of Alternative Energy

Most of us might have already noticed that the conventional sources of energy like petrol, diesel, kerosene which are derived from fossil fuels are depleting quickly. Also, the over usage of these byproducts of fossil fuels have led to an increase in air pollution and has ultimately led to global warming. Due to all these reasons, we are forced to find alternate sources of energy that can be harvested with quite a bit of ease. In this article, we will discuss briefly about some of the alternatives to conventional energy.

There are many alternate sources of energy but the most common of them are listed below.

Hydro electricity is the energy obtained from water. Since water is abundantly available on earth, we can use this energy without worrying about its depletion. This energy is obtained from the force of falling water. So, this power can only be generated from rivers and waterfalls where water falls from a certain height. The set up required to generate hydro electric power is very expensive and requires proper maintenance. This energy has been used from the old age and accounts for about 20 percent of the world’s energy usage.

Wind energy is one of the most important alternatives to fossil fuels. The force of wind is used to rotate wind turbines, which in turn generates energy. The greatest aspect of wind energy is that its generation does not involve any chemical process and hence it is free from all sorts of pollution. Another advantage is that a wind turbine can be built anywhere, provided, the area has strong winds blowing for most part of the day. Also, this is a renewable source of energy and the supply does not exhaust.

Solar energy is the energy derived from sun’s heat. This is also a renewable source of energy and it can be generated until the sun exists in this world. Generally solar energy is used for cooking and heating purposes. There are various methods to generate solar energy. Some of the most frequently employed constructions are solar panels, parabolic mirrors, etc.

Geothermal energy is derived from the heat derived form hot springs and geysers that are created naturally due to volcanic eruptions, etc. It is generated from hot steam that is released from under the earth surface. The greatest disadvantage of geothermal energy is that it can only account for a small supply of energy.
