Wind Energy Employment

There are lots of energy sources in this world. But, most of them come with a cost. For instance, energy generation from fossil fuels comes with the cost of increased pollution and nuclear energy comes with the cost of depletion of radioactive minerals. Hence, we are forced to find out an alternative source of energy which doesn’t increase air pollution and also does not deplete. This led to the generation of energy from wind. But, there are lots of problems associated with the employment of wind energy. We will briefly discuss how wind energy is employed and the related problems.

Wind energy can be effectively generated only if there is a steady flow of wind. So, we should be very careful in choosing the location for a wind turbine. If the flow of wind is very low, there will be fluctuations in the amount of energy generated. To supplement these fluctuations, sometimes other sources of energy are used in conjunction with wind energy.

Placing wind turbines not only depends upon the flow of wind but also upon many other factors. Some of the important factors to be considered while choosing a location is the cost of land to be acquired, cost and feasibility of transmission lines, etc.

Generally, many wind turbines are employed in a given area and their outputs are inter-connected. The energy generated is then stepped up or stepped down depending upon its voltage.

Unlike generation of energy from other sources, wind energy generation will not be able to reach its full capacity as it depends upon the characteristics of wind which will definitely change with time.

In wind energy, “penetration” is a popular terminology. It refers to the ratio of the amount of wind energy produced to the actual capacity of the plant. The ideal value of penetration is “one” but practically it is impossible to achieve it.

It is difficult to employ wind energy in residential areas since it occupies lot of space. Also, it is very costly to set up a wind chime in a residential complex. But, once it is employed, we can save about half of our electricity bill.

Although, the employment of wind energy seems to be an expensive process, we are in need of an alternate source of energy which can last forever. So, it would be a wise decision to choose wind energy to supplement the conventional sources of energy.
