Hydrogen Analyzer
A hydrogen analyzer is a tool used to measure the hydrogen content in materials. It is widely used for measuring the fuel capacity in materials. Hydrogen is used as a renewable energy source in modern day. It can be extracted from natural resources such as water. Hydrogen is used to power hybrid engines and cooling systems. There is a variety of hydrogen powered generators available on the market. The drawback of using hydrogen as a fuel source is the difficulty in transporting it across different regions. A hydrogen analyzer can also be used to measure the gas content in different gas mixtures. A hydrogen analyzer can be used to detect leaks and spills in power plants and generators.
There are a variety of hydrogen analyzers or micro sensors. Each of these sensors can be used in different scenarios depending on the need. The optical fiber hydrogen sensor requires the hydrogen analyzer to be in point-contact of hydrogen. This hydrogen analyzer is coated with a chemical that can detect interference in a metal. Tapered fiber coating is used with palladium to detect the losses in evanescent waves. Both of these types of hydrogen analyzer are used in the power production industry. These sensors are extremely accurate and have response time of a few milliseconds.
An MEMS hydrogen sensor utilizes nanotechnology and micro electromechanical systems to detect hydrogen at room temperature. A more basic analyzer is the thin film sensor. The thin film sensor has a palladium layer which reacts with hydrogen to form hydride. This causes the film to swell. The increased resistance is used to measure the conductance between electrical pathways. Another method of analyzing hydrogen is using the chemo chromic hydrogen analyzer. This sensor uses reversible and irreversible chemo chromic hydrogen sensors. There is a change in color if hydrogen is present in the environment. A tape form of this hydrogen analyzer can be found.
Each of these hydrogen analyzers can be used for small and large scale operations. Some of the hydrogen analyzers utilize extremely advanced machinery while the other utilizes simple chemical reactions. However not all analyzers are capable of giving a direct and accurate notation of the amount of hydrogen that is available in the environment. Therefore it is always best to purchase a hydrogen analyzer depending on the purpose. If it is for the sake of maintenance and repair, it is best to use simple measures such as tape to detect hydrogen leakage.
