Hydrogen Detector
Hydrogen is a tasteless, colorless gas and can be detected by putting a flame into it and it will then give out a popping sound. The hydrogen detector immediately measures hydrogen gas concentration in the air. They are multipurpose, save lives and are inexpensive. There are many producers of gas detectors that produce different kinds of a hydrogen detector also, ones with a variety of models available at different price. It can be simple in design and hand held.
They can be used in manufacturing systems and in industries like mining and petroleum. In some locations there use is compulsory by the law for the safety where as in other locations, they are not legally compulsory, but it’s safe to install them. There are different detectors for hydrogen; we can detect it by using palladium as palladium easily absorbs the hydrogen gas and forms palladium hydride, also there are the optical fiber sensors which use a metal surface that changes color when it comes in contact with the hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas can be detected by making a micromechanical system device to detect hydrogen, also by the manufacture of thin film sensors which uses palladium particles which swell after forming palladium hydride and there are also chemochromic hydrogen sensors which use a pigment when it comes in connection with hydrogen gas.
Firstly, there are thermal detectors which just like the hydrogen detector are very helpful and it’s positioning really matters a lot. It alarms when they feel the heat so it should be positioned directly above the location of hydrogen fire.
Secondly, there are UV detectors best suited in the applications like in enclosed rooms. They have a good detection range and a give very quick response. But sometimes the ventilation ducts in most of the enclosed rooms can reflect lightening that can cause detectors to alarm.
Thirdly there is a combination of IR sensor filters and software analysis forms the multispectrum IR detectors, which reduces the false alarms and also see the flames. For the detection of hydrogen both indoors and outdoors, the multispectrum IR detector is the first choice. Some are also designed in a way to detect the low IR level of hydrogen fires. Multispectrum IR detectors have limits and have complete solar resistance.
Along with the protection of workers from any harm, a detector can also reduce heating, air conditioning, electricity and insurance by installing detector in areas where batteries are charged. It also needs to be maintained and tested regularly.
