Who Discovered Hydrogen
Hydrogen is becoming a valuable resource in modern technology. It is being used in vehicles, generators and cooling systems for advanced machinery. You might well ask who discovered hydrogen. Hydrogen was initially discovered during a reaction between an acid and a metal by T. Von Hohenheim. He officially managed to produce hydrogen via chemical reactions in the fifteenth century. Further studies were conducted into the nature of the element by Robert Boyle. Finally in the seventeenth century a Henry Cavendish discovered hydrogen by a similar reaction and called it hydrogen. It was later on that scientists concluded that hydrogen was an abundant fuel source after identifying its ability to power apart from the sun. Hydrogen has a variety of uses in modern times. The combustion process which hydrogen produces is virtually pure and produces almost no harmful or detrimental byproducts. Water vapor is the main byproduct of hydrogen combustion. Hydrogen was first utilized as a fuel by Germany when the inflatable aircrafts, the Zeppelins were produced. However due to the volatile nature of hydrogen it was not successful during its initial tests.
In low temperatures hydrogen is used as a cryogenic fuel. It can help study the effects of superconductors and magnets. Hydrogen is also used to create a variety of complex chemicals such as ammonia. Ammonia created via the Haber process requires a large amount of hydrogen. In turn ammonia is used for creation of fertilizer and other important products. Who discovered hydrogen would not have known the usefulness of hydrogen in its use to saturate cooking oil. A more detrimental use of hydrogen was the creation of the hydrogen bomb which no doubt was blamed on who discovered hydrogen. The hydrogen bomb uses hydrogen in a similar fashion to the sun. Hydrogen has to be created into one of three forms. Deuterium and tritium are the main forms used in the hydrogen bomb. Two neutrons are fired into the nucleus of the atom. Deuterium and tritium are extremely radioactive atoms which can cause large explosions during reactions.
Hydrogen has many applications in present times. It is used to help cool high powered generators in industries and aircrafts. The ability of hydrogen to bind with molecules and create water vapor is valued due to its demand for heat energy. This process requires large amounts heat energy which is used from overworked generator engines and aircraft turbines. This process effectively cools the engine and keeps it running at optimum efficiency.
Hydrogen is a valuable resource that will become vital as the future of technology progresses into renewable and green energy and is to the credit of who discovered hydrogen.
