Gold Mining Information

Gold mining is one of the most lucrative of businesses today. Gold was mined for many centuries in all parts of the world where gold was found and today the gold mining business provides plenty of jobs.

First, the gold should be identified. Gold is usually a shade of yellow but it all depends on the impurities that are present. Gold is a metallic element with a dull and very shiny luster, often referred to as the "bling-bling" effect.

It is important to determine where the prospecting will begin and then understand the difference between lode gold mining and placer gold mining. Lode gold mining is the place where gold is first deposited in veins. Placer gold is described as the gold that has eroded from veins and washed out into lakes, creeks, rivers and streams.

There are also unthinkable places where gold can be found mainly due to tornadoes, mudslides, erosion, floods and storms and other natural events.

To mine gold, there are several methods employed, but gold panning is the easiest and cost effective method. It is not considered commercially viable for extracting gold from large deposits, except where labor costs can be considerably low and cheap. This method is also used by hobbyists and individual miners; it is where a large flat metal plate or pan is moved in a circular motion in the water, which then removes the waste material. The gold is trapped in the ridges. There are various specialized metal pans there are invented and used by miners.

Metal detectors could also be used but could not always be accurate as it only scans a certain area and depth. Gold deposits found at a lower depth cannot be detected using detectors. The only advantage is the device is cost effective, easy to carry around and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out how it works.

Small scale gold miners use a sluice box to extract gold from placer deposits. It's been in existence from the good old days of gold mining. A sluice box is a box that has riffles in the bottom, the box is placed in the bed of water to channel the water flow, and gold-bearing material is placed at the top of the box. Water then passes through the sluice box and the riffles trap the heavy minerals.

Dredging is usually used by commercial industries for gold mining. It is very expensive and the process is usually used for large scale gold mining as dredges can be used to go down to great depths.

Another commercial gold mining method is Hydraulic mining.

It is where high pressure water is sprayed on an area of rock where the gold is deposited and the high water pressure breaks the rock up and dislodges the gold deposits.

Hard rock mining is where digging is done into solid rock to find the gold. This is an extremely expensive method as well and is usually done by the most successful gold mining businesses.

The type of mining operation or method will depend on the individual, type of business, quantity, location and it will also depend on the mineral.
