Bucyrus International, Inc. whose current location is based in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin since 1893 was a heavy mining equipment manufacturer that was founded in 1880 in Bucyrus, Ohio. From their early production of Steam shovels, they now produce large electric rope shovels, rotary blasthole drills for surface mining and walking draglines. They amalgamated with Erie Steam Shovel Company in 1927 calling the merger Bucyrus-Erie. Bucyrus then merged with the British firm Ruston & Hornsby Ltd., in 1930 forming Ruston- Bucyrus Ltd., in England. Ruston & Hornsby Ltd., having started manufacturing steam excavators in 1874 and with the Bucyrus merger, access to world markets that were not previously possible gave the company added strength. But however in a period of recession Bucyrus sold their share in 1985 of Ruston-Bucyrus. In intensive competition they manufactured hundreds of mining machinery and construction equipment. They Acquired their main competitor Marion Power Shovel in 1997. Bucyrus also acquired the DBT Group from Germany's RAG Group. Equipment is marketed under the brands Bucyrus, Bucyrus-Erie, Marion, and Ransomes & Rapier of Ipswich, England, while DBT complementing the current surface machinery line manufactures underground mining equipment that.
Another famous name is the US based corporation Caterpillar Inc. is the world's largest in the manufacture of construction and mining equipment, industrial gas turbines, diesel and natural gas engines. Headquartered in Peoria, Illinois. Caterpillar is popularly referred to as CAT and is famous the world over for their distinctive yellow paint and their machinery that features continuous tracks. Theirs is a range of heavy equipment which includes a range of well known Caterpillar bulldozers.
Founded in 1865 by Robert Hudson, based in Gildersome, near Leeds, England and as the advertisement goes Robert Hudson Ltd supplied light railway materials, such as tipping and mining wagons, timber and platform wagons, estate cars, track and accessories, paraffin, steam and diesel locos. They were internationally known as a major supplier and later changed their name to Robert Hudson (Raletrux) Ltd.
Among the other famous manufacturers are MAN Takraf short for Tagebergbau-Ausr?stungen, Krane und F?rderanlagen which is a German industrial company producing surface mining equipment, cranes and conveyor equipment and Komatsu Limited, a multinational corporation manufacturing construction, military and mining equipment, industry machinery such as press machines, lasers, and Thermoelectric modules. Founded in 1917 its headquarters is at 2-3-6, Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, Japan.
After Caterpillar, Komatsu is the world's second largest manufacturer of Mining and Construction Equipment but, Komatsu enjoys a larger share than Cat in certain geographic areas of Japan, China and the Middle East. Japan, Asia, the Americas and Europe are where its manufacturing operations are based.
