Working In Coal Mines
Miners are needed for the purpose of metal mining and without human labour mining are almost impossible. Modern machines have taken most of the places which was earlier occupied by human labours but still mining sector needs lot of human miners. These miners work under extreme conditions and their job timing is even more than 12 hours per day. These miners work under severe risks and according to records more than hundreds of miners die every year because of various reasons.
Some of the risks which are involved with these miners are described below:
1. Illness - there are several deaths because of the gases and the conditions under which miners work, the underground mines contains various hazardous gases which are affects the health badly and even causes severe illness. Underground mining illness accounts more than 50% of the total deaths among miners working in mines. Some of the diseases which are related to mining are heart disease, breathing problem, lung disease etc. precautions are taken to avoid these harmful gasses but still some miners get affected by these diseases.
These miners are provided with gas masks which are made for the purpose of safety. These masks are provided by the mining industry under which a miner is working.
2. Sudden accidents - one of the major reasons which cause maximum deaths among miners are sudden accidents. Accidents like slipping, tripping, falling etc. many miners while working under these mines suddenly slip and get hurt because of the hard surface below them. Some miners report incidents like getting cut from the sharp edges which are present inside the mines. Miners had to be very careful to avoid sudden accidents. Sudden accidents are very harmful as they can even cause death to miners.
3. Occupational stress - the working schedule of miners are very hectic. Most the miners work for around more than 12 hours in a day and this can really frustrate the mind. Many miners suffer from stress problems which can lead to accidents in mines. The only way to avoid this condition is to reduce the work timings.
4. Mine collapsing - some accidents like collapsing of the mine should be avoided, as miners are completely trapped under the mines. In such situation it generally takes a lot of time to bring out the miners from the mine. Most of the miners die in such accidents. The only way to prevent these accidents is to recheck all the machines which are used to hold the coal mines roof.
