Canadian Mining
Canadian mining first became prosperous thanks to the diamonds that were found in the country. Canadian diamonds are said to have a sparkle that is similar to the radiance emitted by the Northern Lights. The reality is that it is the cut of the diamond that makes it twinkle in this manner, and not its national identity. Even so, Canadian diamonds are some of the whitest you can find anywhere in the world. The strict government regulations of the Northwest Territories also ensure that these diamonds are of extremely high quality. This well earned Canadian reputation for diamonds means that the Canadian mining industry brings in most of its revenue from the mining of diamonds.
Another reason while Canadian diamond mining is so special is because it has only been around for thirty years or so, while making great progress in those thirty years. Before diamond mines were found in Canada's Arctic North in the year 1985, the best diamonds came from South Africa. But then Canadian geologists, Charles Fipke and Stuart Blusson, found a large vein of Kimberlite in Yukon, Canada. Kimberlite is the best stone-growing medium in which high quality diamonds are found, and thus this discovery was met with great excitement and a chain of mining companies started up and became prosperous in Canada.
Canada is now one of the three best producers of gemstone quality diamonds in the whole world. The two largest mines in Canada are found in the North West Territories, just near a city called Yellowknife. There are two mines that operate in this area, the Etaki and the Diavik mines. There is a large third mine called Jericho-3 that started its mining operations only in 2005. Northern Ontario houses a fourth mine called Snap Lake-4 which started its production in 2007. There are quite a few more diamond mines and mines for other gemstones in the southern parts of the country.
The money for Canadian mining is provided by the Canadian government and all the gemstones that are extracted are certified through the government as well. Unlike many of the gemstones that you can buy elsewhere, you can trace Canadian gemstones right back to the very mine that it was found in and extracted from. All Canadian diamonds are etched with unique serial numbers, along with a microscopic image of a maple leaf or polar bear. All gemstones mined in Canada have a Canadian Triple Guarantee, assuring their purity and quality.
