Construction Jobs Ca
The current market trends seem to show that the demand for consumer purchase of such big ticket items such as houses is increasing in Canada. This might suggest the combination of lower interest rates and increased government spending is having a positive influence. That being said there has only been a recent minimal increase in the rebound of jobs and job creation giving rise to a fear of a jobless recovery.
In order to get a better idea of the construction job market in Canada we must take a close look at some of the figures presented by Statistics Canada. For example they have shown that total employment in April increased by 24,000 which is the strongest increase since July of 2008. Unfortunately most of the jobs created in August were part-time in the private sector which is an indicator that although more staff is needed to keep up with work...not enough work is available to justify hiring full-time employees.
If looking for additional data as to the strengthening of labor and construction demand the Q4/2009 Manpower Inc. Employment Outlook survey seem to show that Canada's hiring plans have turned in a positive direction. It also indicated that this trend was not confined to one geographic location but spread across all four regions with the Prairies (including BC) up by the most +8% followed closely by the Atlantic region with +7%. Quebec and Ontario showed minimal growth of +3% and +2%. Lori Rogers, VP Operations for Manpower Canada was quoted in a recent interview as saying: "The hiring climate in Western Canada and Atlantic Canada is ahead of the national forecast," Rogers adds. "Employers in Western Canada report an optimistic hiring climate with a Net Employment Outlook of 28 per cent, as do Atlantic Canada employers at 21 per cent. Ontario employers expect a respectable hiring climate with a Net Employment Outlook of 15 per cent. Quebec employers report weaker hiring intentions, but are still hopeful, with a reported Net Employment Outlook of 11 per cent."
When considering their surveys and statistics Manpower Inc. recognize ten main industrial categories. The good news is for the construction industry employees that the strongest growth of all these categories in the fourth quarter was construction. It led the way in industry growth by +10%.
