There are many fuel jobs available. Jobs in the fuel industry are varied and most require special endorsements, certifications, education, and licenses in order to perform the duties. Fuel jobs usually require the applicant to have good interpersonal skills along with strong math and computer skills. Jobs in the fuel industry range from customer service representatives to delivery drivers, so a person could find a fuel job without needing any formal college education.

Customer service representatives answer initial and follow-up calls from customers regarding service or technical support. They also respond to inquiries on service call requests and delivering invoices in a timely manner. District Operations Managers manage the customer service staff, manage profit and expense activity, sales, and inventory fleet, staffing, provide customer service, and generate new sales. Operations supervisors oversee the dispatching of delivery drivers and must have strong computer skills. Sales representatives sell propane gas and equipment to residential and business clients. They acquire new accounts while maintaining current ones. They also assist in marketing plans and maintain relationships with both customers and suppliers. Service managers oversee daily scheduling, dispatching of technicians and provide customer service follow-up. They supervise the technicians and manage the billing and code compliance. Utility dock workers pump gas, make hoses, unload railroad cars, paint and recertify DOT propane tanks. They keep the plant neat and assist the service department when needed.

Delivery drivers drive propane delivery trucks to customer locations and must possess either a Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements. Another job that requires possession of a Class B CDL with Hazmat endorsements is the gas service technician. They install, repair, and maintain propane appliances for customers. A general manager is responsible for managing employees, production costs, plant, office, and vehicle expenses. They also deliver and install propane equipment and take proactive measures to increase customer service. Tanker or transport drivers load, transport and deliver propane to retail customers.
