Minnesota Power coal plant has gone through some major changes through such harsh economic times as what is happening today to million of individuals. The decision to implement two hundred forty million dollars worth of upgrades and to retrofit the Power plant is an expensive adventure, but a worthwhile one.

This massive endeavor includes eight-story scaffolding and will employ up to six hundred day shift individuals and well over two hundred night shift individuals. This is a good effort all the way around keeping the able-bodied men and women employed when millions of other individuals all around the country are without employment and having their lives torn apart.

The mercury emissions will reduce at a rate of ninety percent, while nitrogen oxides will reduce at a rate of eighty-one percent. The sulfur dioxide will reduce at a rate of ninety percent, while the particulate matter will reduce at a rate of ninety-three percent. Realizing this is costing quite a bit of money it will operate and have the capacity of producing three hundred fifty megawatts of power.

This is more than enough to keep the entire city and some of the surrounding area with power, power that will run smoothly without interruptions, as is the case in the past. Coal is becoming such a lucrative commodity again as it once was in the past only this time the coal is much more adaptable to the surrounding environment. What this corporation is doing for the community as a whole is almost akin to what Hershey accomplished back during the depression years.

This is part of a few other coal-burning facilities that has the environment and the wildlife in mind and will have a significant reduction of emissions. When this corporation is back on line and running at full capacity the stocks will be the proof of how coal is making another substantial comeback in society today.

With the cleaner coal and the means through technology to burn clean fuel and reduce tremendously the emissions will benefit everyone. This is something that over time will catch on in other communities and with other states across the country. The common stock shares or perhaps the municipal stocks will begin to rise offering another way for shareholders to invest for the future. Everyone in the community has a very unique opportunity to continue to prosper even in this down turn economy.
