When most of you read the title of this article, they did not understand anything since aluminum die casting is definitely not a term to be taught in schools. However, school does not and cannot each one everything which is why there are such education articles like this one. What you are going to learn about in this article is what the aluminum dies casting is and what it has to do with the aluminum alloys.

Basically, the process of aluminum die casting means pretty much the same like producing the aluminum alloy. And hopefully, you all know what an alloy of a material means, don’t you? Just in case, let’s explain it with a sentence: that’s mix of the main metal (in our case, that’s aluminum) and any other metals (that could be iron, zinc, copper and many others).

But you probably know that there is more than one alloy for every metal (including the aluminum). In fact, when talking about the aluminum there are 4 main aluminum die casting alloys and giving some basic information about them would definitely be helpful and useful to most of you. But as a beginning, let’s just name the 4 alloys: those are A360, A380, A383 and A413. Perhaps, they don’t have names like you expected but that’s typical for most of the alloys so you should not be surprised.

But let’s get to know some more about their characteristics. The A360 alloy’s hardness is 75, exactly as much as the A383 but it must be mentioned that the thermal conductivity of A360 is much better (65) than the one of the A383 alloy (56). That makes it unsurprising that the percentage of copper is higher in the A360 alloy (30%) than in the A383 ones (only 23%). The density is insignificantly different to mention. The other two alloys A380 and A413 have the same hardness (80) which is a bit better than the previous two. But when A380 and A413 are compared, a huge difference must be pointed out: the thermal conductivity is only 56 for the A380 alloy and 80 for the A413 alloy which makes it with the highest thermal conductivity by the way. And again, it should not surprise us that the A413 has got the highest percentage of copper (31%).
