Aluminum Rod
Aluminum is put into many different uses, and that is evident from the many industrial applications that it is put in. As one would expect, there is competition from other metals, like steel, iron and copper. But what they lack in durability, strength, corrosion resistant and lightness in weight, aluminum is abundantly blessed with. That’s where there are many instances where aluminum proves to be more resilient than all other metals. It might be alloyed with another element, but it still gets to be more in percentage than said element. One of this is in the making of aluminum rods.
Rods are diversely used today, and one of the distinguishing characteristics that determine where this is, is the materials that they are made of. In this context, the emphasis is laid on aluminum used in architecture, and other construction uses. The desired qualities of a rod when it comes to this are strength, durability, and cost effectiveness. These are all possible to achieve with aluminum, with the added advantage of being light in weight. In addition, aluminum rods resist corrosion, which means they can be used in places where there is exposure to the environment. Iron performs poorly in comparison.
An aluminum rod can be produced using different methods and processes. The decision of which method to follow relies on the availability of resources, and the manufacturer being talked about. The aluminum can be melted and shaped into the desired shapes of rods. If this option is not entirely possible, then there is always extrusion. The thickness of the aluminum rod produced depends on the diameter of the die it is passed through. On a related note, the diameter of the rod is one of the specifics you have to address when you are buying an aluminum rod. There is also the desired length, the kind of finish and the alloy type. If your needs are unique, a manufacturer can always meet them personally, when their stock options don’t offer you what you are looking for exactly.
One industrial use of aluminum rods is with electrical transmission lines. Because they are always constantly exposed to the environment, it helps when they are made of aluminum, since it has elemental resistance. That is of course combined with their strength and durability which ultimately make them perfect for the job. The rods are not used in isolation and they have to be combined with bars, which are also made of aluminum.
