Clean Coal Power

Clean coal power is a phrase you see popping up in many places. This phrase seems to carry with it the illusion that coal is in any way clean. The element itself can of course be cleaned, shined, polished, highly refined so as to give companies the most use out of it. For the cleaner it is, the more clean coal power one can derive from it. This phrase is intentionally misleading though and one that coal companies likely came up with themselves to help de-villainize coal. Coal would not be used at all if it were not clean. This is why refineries exist. It is unacceptable to have a soiled product with lots of waste elements in it and companies would not want to buy the product nor would they be expected to. It would not suit their needs or the needs of their numerous clients and they couldn’t afford to work with someone that promised anything less than one hundred percent clean cola power. So the phrase clean coal power is almost an oxymoron. The dirtier the coal is, the lass potential it has to provide power. Clean coal power is the only kind we use anymore, so it should just be called coal power.

However, ever since coal came into the media spotlight with environmentally based campaigns that try to spread the truth about how much waste coal makes and how much damage it can cause, this phrase has sprung up everywhere. It makes no sense why this phrase would even be used at all unless they were trying to convince potential clients and just normal average every day citizens that coal was less dangerous than it actually is. There is nothing clean about the way coal is actually used. Acid rain, mercury poisoning, arsenic contamination, and life shortening lung diseases are just a few of the words and phrases that coal carries around with it because usage of coal results in all of these. These can occur during the mining itself, during the refining, and during the using, and all are lethal and incredibly dangerous. It is not acceptable to go around using this phrase when we all know the devastating effects coal can actually cause. You’d be buying into propaganda. That’s something that nobody ever wants to admit to doing and is something that is seriously important in deterring from the activities we participate in each day. But coal needs to be more regulated and people need to be more educated about the effects it has.
