Coal Advantages
Perhaps, most of the people know quite a lot of facts about the coal since it is one of the most used and popular sources of energy. It also should not be doubtful to anybody that coal has many advantages. After all, it would not be so used if it did not have any, would it?
All advantages of coal are difficult to be counted. In fact, it is quite subjective because a group of people could consider a specific characteristic of the coal as an advantage whereas another group of people could consider it as a drawback. However, there are still characteristics which could not be argued about since they are obviously one of the reasons why the coal is such an important source of energy.
What we should certainly start with is the amount of coal available on the planet. There is quite a large number of sources of energy but it has been proved that coal is the most abundant of them. Of course, the alternative sources of energy (mainly for producing electricity) are excluded since practically, they are endless. Such sources are wind, water and sun. By the way, here is the place to mention that the nuclear energy is not endless- we will run out of the fuel used (an isotope of uranium) one day. Fortunately, that is not likely to happen very soon which is why the nuclear energy is being more and more developed.
But let’s get back to the advantages of coal. What we certainly could not possibly skip is the price. There is no doubt that coal is the least expensive fossil fuel in existence. If you think some more about it, you will find out that it’s pretty logical: as we have plenty of it on the planet, it is normal for the price to be low. Of course, the price will certainly be going up through the next years and even centuries but that is normal for all resources which we will run out of one day (even the water).
Well, that was pretty much everything which you should know about the coal as one of the main sources of energy for generating electricity. There is no doubt that the usage of the fuel will not cease in the near several decades since the so called coal fire plants remain one of the most reliable methods for generating electricity. Yes, it is true that there are disadvantages also but obviously, they are much fewer than the advantages. Otherwise would the United States produce 51% of the electricity in coal fire plants?
