Coal Burning Stoves
Though somewhat antiquated today, coal burning stoves happen to still be some of the most efficient stoves of all time. They are able to slow roast just about anything you need to have slow roasted and are able to have their temperature controlled through simply deciding how much coal you want to put in. There were likely different amounts one might want based on what type of stove they had specifically and how they wanted to cook something. Many coal burning stoves were not actually even used the way stoves are used today. If someone left the heat on the stove on and the stove door open, one might think they are either desperate or crazy, because this is not a strictly normal occurrence. It is not something you see every day to see someone with an open stove with the heat on. The truth is, back in the days when coal burning stoves were popular, people would put coal in to burn simply for the sake of heat. Not just to cook something or prepare food, but as a heater for the house.
When we think of stoves today we think of ovens, and we don’t think of them as heating devices but as tools to help prepare food that happen to utilize heat in order to do so. We have heaters now that will help us provide heat to our households without the expenditure of our personal coal supplies, if you even happen to have one. What is ironic is that though people seem to see coal burning as an outdated and old way of heating the house, these same people also use heaters and often forget that the electricity that powers their heaters to generate heat is all brought on by electricity in the first place. So in this way it all comes full circle even though people don’t seem to realize it or to want to realize it. Coal burning stoves will always be seen as somewhat of a novelty. You can find them chiefly at craft stores and they can still be found at the home depot, but watching someone use one of those kinds of stoves is like watching someone try to print out their paper on a printing press, it is simply abnormal behavior. A new standard has swept our world and one that is not soon to go away. There is no practical reason for the old technology anymore except to be there in case our electricity fails us and we aren’t too worried about that.
