Coal Mines In Australia

It is clear that there is a plethora of coal in Australia, as it has been reported that coal mines in Australia export about 75% of their coal annually. This must mean that either Australia is very small as it seems to only need 25% of the coal that they actually mine, or that the amount of coal in Australia is staggeringly high. It wouldn’t make any logical sense to export coal and then in turn import coal from other places unless for some reason Australian coal can get more money on the market than other coal and they just sell the coal and buy in new coal to make more profit. But even then it doesn’t make any sense why they would keep 25%. If their coal were worth so much more they would have sold that too for even more profit, it’s the only thing that makes sense economically. Therefore it must be assumed that coal mines in Australia are absolutely rich with coal surplus. This is a comforting fact as though we do not always think of Australia when we think of global superpowers, it is nice to know that we can rely on them for a while when it comes to coal if we ever begin running out. So far our concerns lie more with oil, and reducing the damage that coal wreaks on our ecosystem rather than worrying about running out of coal.

At our current rate of consumption though, it is not something we have to worry about now, but the threat of someday running out of coal is a very real one. Like many other resources we use up every day, coal is a non renewable one and it is important that we also work on trying to conserve what we have, even if it doesn’t seem like it is in short supply thanks to the information we’re getting on coal mines in Australia. It is not known what we are come to expect fully from this information but it can only be assumed that thanks to coal mines in Australia, we will have a lot of coal for years to come. This is still not reason enough to totally relax though. We need to stay on our toes and conserve before it is too late to do so. Otherwise in the future we will be kicking ourselves when we have run out of coal entirely and haven’t come up with an alternative energy source to feasibly replace it yet.
