Coal Spot Price

The coal spot price has become more and more costly recently now that we have increased demand by so much. This is because mines are drying up like crazy and we are now having to import coal from other states to within our own borders as well as needing to import coal from places all over the rest of the world ranging from china to Australia to New Zealand. The coal spot price is only set to continue increasing for years on end until we are able to come up with a method to combat this. The only two methods available are really to conserve what we’ve got (as in, start using less electricity, start purchasing less coal) which is really unlikely to feasibly occur. And the other, marginally likelier option is to come up with a plan to not have to use as much coal at all in the future. This means to come up with an alternative energy source. We have been able to do a lot with wind and hydroelectric energies, but this will not be enough. We have to do a lot more reform, and if more money was spent on going into those types of research instead of on the coal spot price, we would be much likelier to prosper in the future.

Already mines have dried up everywhere. Entire deposits are now gone, with no ability to be resurrected and no more prospects for mining. These deposits have become completely useless and tapped to the maximum that they can be tapped. The problem is that no new deposits are really opening up. It is estimated there is much more coal out there than we actually know about, but you’d still have to search a lot, and most mines out there currently will boast to you that they have enough coal in their mines to last another 50 years of business. They say that as if it is a good thing, as if we should be able to rely on them now that they have reported those facts. But the real fact of the matter is that 50 years is not that much. This means that if you are young and reading this, you will experience a giant coal/electricity crisis in the next 50 years, the likes of which we have never seen, and if not then, then soon after. If you had a child tomorrow, they would have to suffer through this by the time they were middle aged. This is something that we really do need to worry about and not just let slip past us.
