How Much Is Coal
There are definitely many questions which could be asked when it comes to coal. For example, that could be: how much is coal left nowadays? Or why not: how much is coal needed for producing the amount of electricity that we need per day? Those were quite interesting questions, don’t you think so? And there are hundreds more- questions whose answers may make you think what your knowledge is in reality.
However, answering them should not be a priority because it would not take you more than 2 minutes to get an answer for both of the questions above. What you may find really interesting (and are extremely unlikely to know) is that there are quite a lot of types of coal. Yes, that’s right! Practically, using only the word “coal” give a very vague idea of what you are actually talking about due to the fact that there are at least 8 types of coal. You find it surprising, don’t you?
If you are interested in learning the names of the main kinds of coal, here they are: Lignite, Flame coal, Gas coal, Fat coal, Forge coal and Anthracite. In fact, there are a few more but since their usage is extremely limited (due to the small storage of them), it is not worth mentioning them.
But what is different about all these kinds of coal? Answering this question is kind of complicated because the differences among them are really uncountable. However, one of the most significant differences is the presence of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen. For example, Lignite contains around 70% carbon, 6% hydrogen and 17% oxygen; flame coal contains around 75% carbon, 5.8% hydrogen and at least 10% oxygen; gas coal has got around 85% carbon, 5% hydrogen and 7% oxygen. Such information could be given for each of the kinds of coal but you have probably realized that it’s pointless simply because a table could be used instead of memorizing all these numbers.
What all that information has been given for is to show you that coal comes in various kinds, having different characteristics. Logically, some kinds provide energy for producing more electricity than others. In fact, there are some sorts of coal which are not used for producing electricity because of their low level of power. That means that having found coal storage is not a guarantee for increasing the amount of electricity manufactured, not until the exact sort of the coal is found out.
