Thermal Coal Price
The thermal coal price is going to be a little more than that of the coking coal price, these being the two main types of coals. This is because coking coal is the kind that is made of more volatile products. It will have a composition of combustible elements that make up about 25 to 35 percent of its chemical makeup. This is the coal that is suitable for a blast furnace as it is the kind that will burn and will leave residue but will not cause as much steam to be created. It will not have all the benefits of thermal coal and will not burn for as long, but will have a thick residue one can clean out and use for other things once the heating is finished which is something you can’t do with thermal coal. This is usually used for people that want to create heat or that have something to do with the leftover remainder of coal which is called the “coke” but don’t necessarily need the coal. Thermal coal is the more commonly used type, as this is the coal that creates enough steam to drive the turbines which will eventually go on to create electricity.
This is why the thermal coal price is higher because although it seems to be more common, it is also more commonly used and the most important. It may be more available, but there is also higher demand for it which makes people desire to search out that kind of coal even more and it makes it possible to charge more for it than you normally would for other coal related products. The thermal coal price is actually fairly reasonable and what most other coal prices are based on since they know people will be paying top dollar for the thermal cousins of coking coal. Thermal coals properties allow it to burn longer and create more steam than any other element. Since it is a problem with needing to create steam in order to drive turbines, and it isn’t actually the coal itself that needs to be used, but the byproduct of it, this is what drives people to look for alternative energy sources. But as of yet, we have yet to find an element that is able to create steam in as large quantities as thermal coal that will also be able to power turbines for many hours at a time over and over again continuously.
