Welsh Coal Mines

Welsh coal mines are a large source of our coal today. They are also along with New Zealand a major source of coking coal out there in the world. We need these types of mines around just as much as we need thermal coal because we need steel just as much as we need electricity. Steel in both small and large amounts equally can be found in everything that needs to be reinforced by something strong. This is because steel is plentiful and it has properties that allow it to be strong when any pressure or force is put upon it. This is something that needs to be taken into account in order to understand the coal crisis that is going on right now. Many people do not know that we have a coal crisis going on in our lives right now but soon it will become something that cannot be ignored. The good thing about the coking coal provided by Welsh coal mines is that the steel made from coking coal is fully recyclable. Steel can always be taken, melted down, and reformed into different shapes that we can use for other purposes while still retaining their steel quality and without losing any bit to the atmosphere.

The bad thing is that the same cannot be said for thermal coal. See, even if Welsh coal mines decide to stop producing that oh so necessary coking coal, we may be able to do without it for a while. It will be a sacrifice on our parts but we can certainly find a way to put all the steel we have out there today back to better use if we start to recycle and see that the steel is absolutely needed. We can be expected to be able to pool our resources if it means that we will have a better future. But this simply cannot be done with thermal coal because once thermal coal is burned and used up, it is gone forever. It takes millions of years and countless other processes for nature to form coal and it is not something we will be able to rely on forever. Thus, we need to start preparing for the future and thinking of what we’ll do once all of the thermal coal in the world is gone. This could be a very real thing to come in the next 50 or 100 years or so. Coal is not an answer for the future but it is for the foreseeable future so we still have some time to work things out.
