Western coal corp happens to be one of the pre-eminent coal mining companies in all of America. Much like many of their competitors, as a lot of their business lies in their investors, they have stock statistics all over the front page of their web site as well as nice little pictures that help people think that Western Coal corp is a company that can be trusted. There really isn’t much reason not to trust coal companies these days. It is popular to, as with the oil industry, see them as an evil force that needs to be combated, but you’d be hard pressed to find any damage that this company has caused that hasn’t been outweighed by the positive things. The fact remains that coal is a necessary evil in our society. Most coal mining websites show pictures of their plant. This plant is usually a large metallic mass, stained and rusted with age and not well taken care of, and surrounded on all sides by scored, scorched, charred earth that simply will never be able to regain its former beauty. This is something we must get used to when dealing with coal because it is something we cannot get past. The fact is, coal is harmful to the environment, but because there is such a need for it these days, we continue to harvest it and seek it out and mine it daily. Western coal corp even maintains that they manage to have mined over 10 million tons of coal over the next 3 years, from 2011to 2013.

The even more startling fact is that this is only a high mark for this company specifically. This mark has already been reached by many prominent coal based corporations or other mining syndications and is only something that strictly western coal corp aspires to accomplish for their own goals. It is shocking that we go through so much coal in a year that then million tons in three years would not be enough to power the entire earth, but this is only the goal of one company and there are hundreds of other giants out there with the same aim. With this much coal being used in a few years how is it possible to sustain such a lifestyle for so long. There isn’t exactly new coal being made every day. It may be important to invest our money in alternative energies. They payoff may not be great at first, but they need the money to get the research done that will one day be saving all of our lives.
