Working In A Coal Mine

The job of working in a coal mine isn’t as nice as the song makes it sound. Well to be fair, the song called working in a coal mine is actually a pretty good depiction of the miner’s lifestyle, but we are fooled into thinking it is lyrically bright because of how happy the music seems when in reality it is actually describing the harsh realities of the lifestyle. This includes waking up very early, working all day, and coming home too tired and sore to do just about anything aside from going to sleep, only to wake up the next day and do it all over again. It also manages to speak to the perils of working in a coal mine such as unsure footing and the fear that wherever you step you have the potential to slip down and fall. You’re constantly going down down down, further and further, only to still have to fear the possibility that you may slip and fall even further. Though the song is positive, bright, and catchy, the lyrical content and subject matter are anything but. One must really listen to this song to understand how tough it is when you are working in this type of environment. It is a dangerous kind of place. This is the type of career that people will only take on if they are desperate or have no other options. There are a minority of people out there that truly enjoy the coal mining lifestyle but those are few and far between, and when I say lifestyle, I do mean lifestyle. This isn’t the kind of thing that you just do as a job.

You really have to model your life around the practice if you’re thinking about going into a career of coal mining. It is unfortunate that some people have to essentially give themselves up to do this type of work. When you mine coal, your entire life revolves around it, and there isn’t anything you can say to the contrary. This is why so many people stay away from doing this because nobody wants to do the job. They don’t want to sacrifice their personal enjoyment and health all for the sake of their career. Plus the pay is awful. There is not much incentive to actually participate in this activity unless you are really determined to get a job and have nowhere else to look to as a prospective. This isn’t something that people routinely do because it is very taxing on you physically and mentally.
