Copper Futures

With the rate of use that we subject to copper as of late, it is unsure about whether copper futures will be bright or not. We need to start thinking about other materials that could possibly take the place of copper some day. Of course this is not the easiest thing to do because copper isn’t so easily replaced. It possesses certain properties that other metals don’t have, and all of the other metals out there that are in high quantities that we could realistically substitute for copper would just become as scarce as copper if we tried relying on them too much. Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer to what to do here but until we figure out something, our copper futures are on shaky footing.

It would be nice if we could simply agree to not use copper but it is not as simple as that. There is a line of thought out there that states that it is a possibility that the reason that the penny has come under fire lately is because people are trying to get rid of it in order to use the copper. People already care little about pennies. Pennies can routinely be found in gutters and on sidewalks, in between couch cushions, and unused for years in car ash trays. This is because it is of such low value that people don’t care about them anymore. With the recent discussion in congress to possibly take the penny out of circulation, it is not such a far leap of logic to think that this might be because we are trying to get rid of the penny, not just for economic reasons (though that would surely be some of it) but if the penny were no longer accepted, people would start turning all their pennies into salvage yards. Ironically, if the penny were taken out of circulation in America, this would likely cause the worth of physical pennies as they are now to increase to a point that they are actually more valuable than the one cent that you would spend them on. More and more people favor the loss of the penny these days because it will ensure that our copper futures are secured since we will have one more building material to continue to use in much more valuable projects, like building homes and manufacturing computer components and all other things that actually require copper. We could take any metal and put a value on it if we wanted to, but copper is something special to science and engineering that we can’t just arbitrarily edit.
