Alternative Energy Sources

The entire world is threatened with extinction unless people change their living habits for the better and sooner. Every where we are there are alternative energy sources staring at us. Our main problem however is our inability to make some constructive use of the available energy n a viable and economically sustainable manner. To ensure that the world remain as naturally habitable for a longer time from now, it is high time we changed our preferences in energy usage and start relying on renewable alternative energy sources.

Human activity is responsible for a great deal of destruction taking place on the earth at the moment. The most destructive sector responsible for the destruction of the earth is the energy sector. It is the choice of energy that the world relies on that is to blame for the constantly deteriorating state of the ozone layer. With the knowledge that the energy sources we use are largely responsible for a large percentage of the damage on the ozone, the entire world should try and concentrate on improving on the use of alternative energy sources.

The main categories of alternative energy sources include solar, wind power, geothermal power, tides and hydroelectric power. Among these five sources of alternative energy, the solar energy comes from the sun’s rays and can be tapped by use of solar panels for use in houses and offices to provide energy for daily use. Wind power can be found in different areas depending on the prevailing wind speeds in the areas. It is there fore important to note that not every place can harness wind power.

In order to harness wind power, windmills are usually set up in the wind path so that they are turned by the moving winds. The wind mills in turn are used to turn simple wind turbines to create energy. As long as the wind continues to blow, the wind mills continue to turn ad the turbines keep rotating and wind power is generated. Geothermal power is generated from the hot geysers and springs. These are particular points in the earth where the activity within the rocks forces some hot steam to come from the ground. Since the steam comes from the ground with some fore, it is enough to drive simple turbines if strategically built on the path of the steam. These turbines will in turn generate power using the ordinary principle use to generate hydro or wind power.
