Free Wind Energy
What is wind energy and why is it becoming increasingly popular versa vice traditional fossil fuel energy. Wind energy is simply the energy generated by the power of the wind. Wind energy comes from the sun’s heating of the earth’s surface. Because the earth’s surface is uneven and irregular it gives rise to streams of air which move from cooler zones to hotter zones. There is no real cost of generating wind energy and this is technically free wind energy. The electricity generated by the movement of the blades of the wind turbine which in turn is the cause of the wind blowing is free wind energy.
Wind energy has come into use for power generating purposes from many years ago. In the nineteenth century the cost of the wind energy generation units came up to 30 cents per kilo-watt hour period. This was not a very attractive price in comparison to the traditional power generators existing at that time. But today with the increase in sophistication of the wind energy generating equipment and also with the prices of fossil fuel going up, the value of free wind energy has increased. The rate per kilo-watt period has come down by almost 80% and it is said that the cost per kilo watt hour is now 5 cents. This is a very attractive cost to pay for one’s electricity cost.
The best advantage of using wind energy is that there is no need to install expensive energy and electricity generating equipment and also that it can be generated in any area where wind is blowing. That is why it makes more sense to use wind energy for electricity generation on farms and ranches because they have ample free supply of the source: natural wind. Another disadvantage of fossil fuel generated power is that they require import of large quantities of these fossil fuels from other countries and these fuels are quite pricy. And the main concern with using fossil fuel generated power is that these fuels are highly polluting and they are a non-renewable source of energy.
To ensure that wind energy can be generated in an effective way and also a tad profitably is to use it on a site with the minimum criteria. For effective wind energy generation you need wind to be blowing at least as a speed of 5 miles per second. When you have a natural source of wind in your area then it is definitely the intelligent choice to use power generated by wind energy.
