Light Energy To Chemical Energy

The presence of electrons in the chemical form released and their energy is converted into light energy. Converting light energy to chemical energy is primarily done through plants and this process is called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis in a broad sense is commonly identified with the reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrate. One can easily understand the two divisions of photosynthesis. The reaction during the light of the day converts and changes a chemical energy which takes place in a thylakoid membrane.

Chlorophyll and other pigments are organized in a bunch which is involved in the reaction caused by light on the membrane. The pigments are different in colors which catch minute differences in color and send the energy thus obtained in the chlorophyll molecule that is central to create photosynthesis. The chemical structure has the central part called a porphyrin ring in a chlorophyll molecule. Several rings in the center have rings that are fused with an ion of magnesium, carbon and nitrogen. Energy derived by this light reaction is saved up by creating adenosine triphosphate (ATP) a chemical. The second part, deep inside the chloroplast a dark reaction happens on the stroma. Thus in this process sugar is derived from carbon dioxide. This reaction does not need direct light to start. Some of the steps in photosynthesis are still not fully understood but the overall photosynthetic equation has been around from the 1800s. The photosynthetic efficiency with which the plants usually convert light energy into chemical energy is about 5%. Chemical energy is the most common used form of energy developed by mankind today. It plays a vital role in our daily lives. It is present in the form of batteries that give power to all of our handheld devices. 

A very basic level that chemical energy is stored has to be understood. Chemical energy is stored in every bond that is made between atoms in a molecule. When the molecule is broken down and transformed into new molecules, energy is released. This kind of reaction is present in every chemical mix we can think about. Even the food we eat is chemically broken down by our bodies and converted energy in our body. Similarly, the energy present in the light of the sun is absorbed by the plant and it applies to existing molecules. The reaction emits chemical energy into the environment. The conversion of light energy to chemical energy is the most efficient energy source to store and utilize.
