Solar Cells Energy
Solar cells were originally developed to control satellites which are far from earth. However, now solar cells are more popular on earth as power suppliers than on space. Light always gives away energy and that energy is generally felt as heat. One of the best characteristics of PV cells is their ability by which they can easily convert light to electricity and not heat. These cells are generally cramped into modules which are made of numerous cells and then fixed in the form of frame which is seen in the form a panel.
Silicon crystals are one of the main ingredients inside these cells. Since these silicon crystals are semi-conductors they have the capacity to detain light and the easily convert it in the form of electric current. When these silicon crystals are exposed to sunlight, the electrons present basically go away instead of moving around in that space like most of the electrons does. Hence when electrons keep moving around there is heat produced however if they move away there are chances for the electric current to be produced. This potential then is organized through an electrical method in the PV which forces all these electrons to go in the similar direction. This flow of electrons then forms the electric current. If there are metal contacts placed on both the sides of these cells it tends to produce power.
This process wherein the sun’s energy has been converted in electrical energy using the conventional solar cell is a complex one which takes place only at atomic level within a silicon cell. This is also inefficient as photovoltaic’s which are so expensive convert only about 50% of the sunlight to electricity. Because of these expensive silicon crystals and shortage of efficiency, solar energy today costs almost five times more compared to the traditional electrical generation.
Even before the voltaic, the horizon method for generating electrical energy has been more efficient. Various studies are growing up to make it possible to harness power through plants as they photosynthesize sunlight into fuel that can be used.
Some researchers are willing to make solar cells which can produce fuel instead of producing electricity. One of the effective reasons for planting trees is they absorb all CO2 from the air. If this absorption of CO2 can be done with the solar cells then the problems regarding global warming can be dealt easily as the CO2 would be pulled out from the air using solar cells to produce fuel.
