Wind Energy Disadvantages

The wind is a force to reckon. When we see tornadoes and other forms of wind power, we see the awful destruction and force it can leave to a place in an instant. However, by manipulating and channeling the power of the wind, we can actually use it as a powerful tool as an alternative energy for many communities around the world. Wind energy has been a very powerful tool as an alternative energy source for various places for the past decades. The issue though is not on its power. Wind energy disadvantages stand on the ground of being cost effective against conventional fossil fuel options that are the staple for energy consumption.

A wind farm can be very expensive. This means it might be able to compete with fossil fuel generators. The cost of technology makes the wind energy manipulation a disadvantageous one. However, in the last 10 years, the cost has dropped considerably lower than when it first came out. The problem is that it is still quite expensive than fossil fuel generators.

One of the more uncontrollable wind energy disadvantages is that wind can be unpredictable. It may be present at times but sometimes, when wind energy is needed for electricity, it does not appear. This unpredictability of the and makes it very disadvantageous because the energy stored through the wind cannot be stored unless there are batteries being used.

Location is also a determinant for wind energy disadvantages. Most of the time, good wind locations are found in a remote location, far off from civilization. If one builds a wind farm on such a place, there will be a rigorous channeling of energy and it would be very expensive for the unpredictable energy the wind can produce.

The aesthetic value of wind mills are also a big concern for some. The noise of the fans and the probability of killing birds are issues that had been apprehended by professionals.

One wind mill is not enough to produce sufficient electricity. For it to work, you need to install a lot of wind mills thus being called a wind farm. This makes the land usage much more inefficient especially if there are much better use of land and more cost effective methods of manipulating the land.

Wind energy disadvantages may be very pronounced and discouraging. But this only makes the research and implementation of effective and competitive alternative energy solutions much more exciting and thrilling. We should take the time to analyze the pros and cons of these alternatives and support the research on finding the best solutions to manipulate the power of the wind in a much more efficient way.
