Wind Energy Generator

The wind energy industry is on a boom. In addition, this is because the investment in the wind energy industry is more or less risk free. The amount of risk is minimal as the wind is predictable and the go green mission is being undertaken with great importance today.

In order to harness wind energy, the first step is to build a windmill. A windmill is a structure that transforms the kinetic energy of the air particle, into electricity. The air particles gain kinetic energy when it becomes wind. In addition, air becomes wind due to the uneven heating of the land by the sun’s rays. Some parts of the land get heated at a faster rate. This hot air rises up and cool air rushes to take its place. This is how wind is created.

Now the windmill, is basically made up of blades (three numbers mostly), a generator, the wind mill nacelle, which may or may not include a gearbox, a generator and a tower that holds all the mentioned components together.

The windmill generators are mainly of two types. The ones with a vertical axis and the other are with a horizontal axis. The generators are the machines that create electricity be harnessing the kinetic energy of the wind. There are today, portable wind generators. These windmill generators are small enough to fit in the back trunk of your car, and it can be carried around for your personal use. The windmill generators vary with the size of the windmill and also with the pressure of the wind current where the windmill is located. The larger the windmill the more powerful will be the generator, and the greater the force of the wind, the greater will be the size and power of the generator.

There are also other types of generators in today’s market, such as, kite powered wind energy. This process is still being built on, as they are trying to capture the great force of wind energy that is available at high altitudes. Another type is the medium sized windmill with a medium sized generator that is aimed at individual households as this can cater to the electricity needs of the household.
