Ac Generators
Ac generators are electrical powered generators. These generators generally use steam turbines to create electrical power. The mechanical energy created via processes is indirectly converted to electrical energy. The electrical generator or Ac generators uses water pumps and has to be directly connected to ample amounts of water to provide power. MHD or magneto hydro dynamic generators use a different mechanism to produce power. MHD generators pass hot gasses through a magnetic field to generate electricity. Therefore Ac generators can be broken down into 4 different types and these are rotor, stationary, armature and magnetic. Rotor and stationary use mechanical energy to generate electricity while armature and magnetic use direct electrical energy. Magnetic electrical generators use temporary field coils to produce energy. The magnetic field is created using a small source of magnetic material which passes electricity to the coil which in turn creates a much larger electric field.
The engine generators and linear electric generators are simpler power sources. These generators use simple mechanical and electromagnetic processes to generate electricity. A single magnetic bar can create enough electricity to power several appliances. Gas turbine generators are the most efficient electrical generators. This is due to the fact that the fuel used to power it is low cost. The drawbacks of water and steam turbines are the need for a large water source to power these turbines. Many countries still use dam reservoirs to power national grids. Low rainfall and drought can severely affect the amount of power that will be supplied to the areas relying on turbine and steam power. Many power stations use smaller electrical generators to power the coils of larger power stations.
The output of electrical generators can be adjusted by using electrical control. Electronic set control and maintenance is only found in a few models. Electrical generators or Ac generators are expensive due to mechanical components within it. Ac generators are difficult to transport due to the sheer size and demand of power. Placing large scale Ac generators requires it to be assembled within the area of use. As mentioned above a secondary generator maybe needed to power the magnetic coils of the primary generator. Ac generators are always almost used to power large scale operations such as national grids. If the region has lake and reservoirs present turbine powered generators are ideal. Maintenance and monitoring is essential to keep an uninterrupted flow of power.
