Hydrogen Production Electrolysis

Industrial grade hydrogen is created via a process known as electrolysis. This process is also used in hybrid vehicles and generators. Electrolysis involves using two electrodes coated with two materials capable of attracting positive and negative ions. Other hydrogen production methods include thermolysis. Hydrogen production is also accomplished by exposing fossil fuels to high temperatures and high pressure. This creates hydrogen as a waste product which is collected and purified. Hydrogen production electrolysis is created by the electrolysis of water. This is done with a few volts and simple apparatus. Industrial scale electrolysis uses high pressure and high temperature. Each system improves the electrolysis process and increases the yield of the products. The standard temperature for electrolysis is 800 degrees. The main energy for this process is provided in the form of heat and not electrical energy as would be expected. Platinum is a catalyst and it is implemented by constructing the electrodes with platinum. The reason platinum is used is due to its inert nature. Therefore there will be no need to replace the electrodes.

In the Hydrogen production electrolysis process the water molecules are passed through the solution. The current flowing through the electrodes causes the breakdown of the water molecules. Due to the high energy of the bonds that water molecules have, it is necessary to supply large amounts of heat energy to accelerate this process. The hydrogen will break off and pass to the cathode. Brine is also used to create hydrogen on a small scale. The gaseous waste products pass out in the form of bubbles from the electrolytes and are collected via chambers. The process relies on oxidation and reduction reactions and can be replicated easily on small scales. Portable fuel cell chargers utilize this process to recharge fuel sticks for small devices.

The reason this Hydrogen production electrolysis process is popular is due to the simplicity and easy access to the raw products. Water can be found in almost any hydrogen production plant. The electricity that is needed to drive the process can be supplied by a simple generator capable of releasing few thousand watts. The end product can be purified using a hydrogen purifier to create extremely pure hydrogen which is extremely valuable for industries such as automobile and vegetable oil. However the drawbacks of this process are the difficulty in containing and transporting hydrogen. Generating the heat required for large scale hydrogen production is difficult.
